ballwinding

it's an upturned dirty washing basket. and it seemed like an excellent way to handwind my skein. except that that's an hour's worth of winding. it's laceweight. there's 1.4 kilometres there... i'm going to make myself get my hands on a borrowed ball winder. but i still think the upturned basket shows promise for regular, smaller skeins.

i just frogged and wound up 1400m of yarn too :S the worst thing was that i had used two strands to knit the thing so it took forever to detangle and rewind... i used a fat hairspray can and my sister and i tried it in tandem...

3 hours later, i have about 16 little cakes of yarn.

Lucky for me, my bf says a wool winder is on its way to my house. *WOOT*

dude, you can come and borrow my ballwinder any time— just give me a call and let me know so i'll definitely be home! it is SO MUCH QUICKER!

Ok, knitting n00b question here, but why re-wind the balls of yarn?
